These pics come to us from Kenny Riddell, through our Facebook page. Kenny was doing some investigating at Dunham park, and took this picture. He says it was pitch black night, and there were no light sources around.
Now, I didn’t know what to make of this, so asked for more info. He then sent the picture below, taken when there was a Tuberculosis hospital at Dunham, telling me that, to him, the ‘image’ in the first pic resembles one of these nurses.
I gotta admit, you can kinda see what he means. Opinions??
a very interesting pic for sure, there is so many different type of light phenomena in this one. I didn’t know about this place, a quick trip to google brought me some good info on it
The Dunham TB hospital was then turned into a home for children that where removed from their parents care due to abuse and or the parents just couldn’t afford to take care of the my mother and all her siblings where placed there in the 1950’s she told me there was alot of bad things that happen to the children placed there but would never go into details about she would just get to upset. It was called the Allen House back then I think it was finally closed in the late 60’s or early 70’s I sure if you look into the history more you’ll fine a lot of story on the place.
I work for CRC (who owns the property now) and It is still called the Allen House, but is now our recreation center on site. This building is creepy, especially the third floor that no one sees but staff. Most all the rooms have “viewing” rooms (aka closets with windows into the rooms) so parents and doctors could monitor the kids without being in the room with them.
There are also tunnels onsite connecting the Arts building to some of our maintenance building that used to be used when the site was a medical campus, although I’m unsure of the history behind the arts building. I’ve been told the tunnels were used to connect to the onsite morgue.
HI I was walking in Dunham Park near the 300 yr old monument and someone grabbed my arm, only to find that no-one was there, highly spooked but would love to find out if anyone knows any more!
There is no 300 year old monument there. I have lived up the street from Dunham for 34 years. You’re full of crap
Nice to know.how rude people can be! DO YOUR HOMEWORK plank
Greetings! i am a 13 year old girl and my grandma has a art studio below the theater here! i often go there with her to help her work! The only thing i’ve experienced was a group of people talking although it was only me and my grandma in the building at the tim, along with a wooden block sliding across the floor. Thats all the info i have!
I’ve performed in many a show with Sunset Players in the Arts building. I have even been down in the tunnels where scenery is stored. I’ve never encountered anything weird or ghostly. But the tunnel area was definitely creepy. I believe it had been set up for a haunted house at Halloween at some point in its history. Perfect place for that.
I’d like to get down in those tunnels myself, just to have a look. Always heard about them but haven’t had the opportunity to check them out yet.
I was in the Allen House in 1990. I refused to go home and I wouldn’t be 18 for another 4 months. At night, I froze in the part of the room where the dresser was. I would hear people coughing all night long. And out on the lawn you could see figures dressed in white like nursing uniforms. I didn’t know this used to be a hospital. For a month I watched these figures walk from under my window to what they told me was the Allen House School. I heard people talking in my room and I was the only person in there. I still think that place was haunted. Last summer, we were walking down Guerley to the Dunham pool and I noticed the potter’s field. Two weeks later, my 18-year-old son led us back there. This spring, we’re going back to that potter’s field. I remember the voices said someone didn’t make it. But I can’t remember the name. If I see it on a marker it could trigger my memory. I never saw the tunnels and we were forbidden to go near the third floor. My husband was in the Allen House in 1971, but he won’t tell me if anything paranormal happened. He was almost 6. But at the pool, when you’re climbing the steps to get on the slides and you look out towards the woods you can see those old nursing uniforms walking back and forth like going from room to room. I thought it was too much sun but in retrospect, this makes sense. I am going to do more investigating. Has anyone else seen this at Dunham Recreation Center?
Please contact me. I grew up in Allen House. I was sent there at least 15 times as a youth. And yes I have seem the unexplained while there. Give me a call and I can let you know some things. My brother and sister was there as well. My email is bigvince513@yahoo.com. and my phone number is 8125576965. Thank you.
I was working for CRC when they took over the Allen House. I spent a lot of time at the building often by myself. I heard crying a few times when no one was around. I often heard people talking. Once when inside by the front desk, the phone rang. As freaked out as I was, I answered it and no one was there. I went through the entire building with a few other employees and don’t know how anyone could stand it. The place was creepy especially on the top floor overlooking the old school. The school itself was quite interesting and sad it was not cared for. The old house next door was at one time gorgeous but when we saw it, it was falling apart and filled with medical items and probably used as doctor’s offices for the children. I was only in the tunnels once and it was then just used for storage of sets for the plays. I understand many gurneys and old hospital items was still there a few years before. If you go to the creek behind the buildings, you probably can still find the glass vials that were thrown away! It’s a real shame the buildings were not cared for because they were a one time beautiful and filled with history that is now lost. People would be surprised at the things thrown away.
grew up playing at Dunham. I get chills thinking about the encounter I had there in 2001. Fortunately, at the time it happened I was with 3 friends- so I didn’t have to freak out and run for my life alone, and I can rule out insanity considering they were there too ( my friends ).
My story is deep. I’ve searched for reasoning for the occurrence or paranormal altercation that happened@ Dunham when I was 15 for a long time. The more I read about Dr. Dunham and the Hospital’s history the more sense this ghostly encounter made.
I use to tell all my friends about what happened to us at Dunham,as my friends and I were the only ones who knew Dunham was haunted . I find it strange I couldn’t find any info about hauntings at Dunham until recently. I grew up on the Westside and currently work on the Westside. It was only until I stumbled across the Creepy Cincinnati website via YouTube, that I found that , in recent years other people say it’s haunted too.
Anyway I know where, or at I think I know where this entity stems from. There is a part of the park no one really knows about behind western hills high school off of prosperity place.
U want an encounter with what is haunting Dunham? I would love to show u.
