Delhi Park

Delhi Park, located on the west side of Cincinnati in, obviously, Delhi, is alleged to be haunted by 2 apparitions. Urban legend says that if you enter the park after dark, you would see these 2 apparitions near a set of swing sets, and they would then follow you until you left the park.

These two are said to be the ghosts of men who drowned in what is called Clearview lake, which is close to one of the parks entrances (Foley Road). Until recently, this lake was part of the property next to the park, behind Clearview Tavern. The tavern is now gone, and the lake is now part of the park. Those who have swam in the lake say there is a strong undertow that has pulled several swimmers under, drowning some.

While it’s not known if these drownings actually occurred, it is known that at least one man purposely drowned himself in the lake not long ago, but the alleged haunting here began before his death. Who these apparitions are, why they hang out ny the swings, and why they chase people out of the park aren’t known. I spoke to a Delhi police officer on patrol there, and when asked about the legend he said he has never seen anyone, living or dead, follow his cruiser when he drives through at night. But, he also said he doesn’t normally look behind him while doing so….but that he would from now on!

The swing sets that these two are said to hang out at are gone now, taken down in 2007, so it’s not known if these two are still supposedly there. If you go looking for them yourself, keep on mind that the park closes at sundown, so you aren’t supposed to be there. And definitely don’t try swimming in the lake, or it could be you hanging out in the park all night for eternity.

  1. Delhi park has always been creepy, I remember being a kid and even at a young age, feeling like it was a “scary” park. I have also eaten at the tavern years ago with my family right by the lake. Since I was a kid I have gotten creepy feelings about things and it’s safe to say that it started around the time we ate at the tavern. Maybe it’s just a legend but go there and see yourself! You will feel what I’m talking about. Also grew up on Halsey ave up the hill from boldface park. Those woods are foreal haunted as well!

  2. I can tell you that these are just rumors. yes a man drowned at clearview lake but that was way before the lake became a part of the park itself. now ive heard lots of rumors growing up but myself nor friends ever saw anything like 2 ghosts chasing people or cars until they left the park. I grew up in delhi, in fact, right behind my backyard was the park. myself and friends use to run up and down that park growing up and im talking sometimes as late as 2-3AM and nothing. now I can tell you of 2 places in the park that there use to be rumors and we have found weird stuff but, never any ghosts.

I don’t think this one is still there but at the top of the hill in the middle of the park, there use to be a picnic shelter tucked down a small hill back in the woods. there use to be a huge drain pipe that went as far as Delhi Pike I was told and there was a rumor that someone died in there but again.. we were kids and believed lots of stuff older kids told us.

the 2nd place is to the left of the soccer field (first right if you come in on the Delhi pike side) well theres a small wooded area and years back there use to be about 15-20 grave stones with peoples names on them all broken. I’m guessing that they were tombstones that were messed up by miss spellings or broken some how but… still not sure why they would be there of all places.

    • Clearview Tavern and Lake was an old school place where you drank and fished in the lake. when we were in high school, we used to go there on Thursday nights for cheap wings and beers. Btw – no one every swam in Clearview Lake in those days!!
