The Witches Tree / Witch Hill

The Witches Tree

The Witches Tree

The Witches Tree, also called Witch Hill, is an urban legend from just south of Cincinnati in Alexandria, Kentucky. For the most part, this legend is dead, as the tree in question was cut down a few years ago. The story goes that sometime in the 17oo’s or 1800’s, 3 women living somewhere around here (some say Cincinnati, some Newport) were caught doing something or other witchy, and escaped down the Ohio river before the locals could get ahold of them. The Top 10 Hauntings and legends in and Around Cincinnati

Everyone has their favorite ‘haunt’, that place they think of when someone mentions ghosts or hauntings, or that place they used to take their friends for a scare when they were kids. But what are the most popular spots? Cincinnati certainly has plenty of supposedly haunted or evil locations to choose from, but which are the most popular?

Otto Printing

Otto Printing

Built in 1850, 511 York Street in Newport, Ky, has been the home of Otto Printing since 1918. Those working in the building claim to hear someone walking around, seeing shadows and apparitions, and hearing what sounds like someone whistling. They also say there’s a spirit there that plays with a small ball they keep on hand. Doing a web search on the property doesn’t turn up much, mostly just info about the business itself, so the alleged haunting here isn’t widely known. It is, however, one of the stops on the Newport is Haunted tour, so the story is starting to grow. Continue reading “Otto Printing”

Bobby Mackey’s Music World

Bobby Mackey's

Located in Wilder, Ky, this is by far the most famous of the local haunts. It has a long history, and far to many stories connected to it to mention all of them here. There have been books written about it, it’s been the subject of several TV shows, including Unsolved Mysteries, Ghost Hunters, and Ghost Adventures, to name a few. And you can count on the local news to do a story on it just about every Halloween. But how much of what you’ve heard is true, and how much is hype?

Lets start at the beginning. I’m just going to give you the basics of the bars history and the tales around it, as much of it isn’t really known for sure, and what is out there varies depending on who you talk to. The site where Bobby Mackey’s sits was originally a slaughter house, built sometime in the late 1840’s, and was shut down in the 1890’s. Part of this slaughterhouse was a drain that led out to the Licking river, which is basically where the blood and other waste from the slaughtered animals was dumped. This drain is always referred to as a ‘well’, but no, it was used to discard waste.

The USS Nightmare

Located right across the river in Newport, Ky, sits the USS Nightmare, a floating haunted house. Just being a creepy old ship, and a haunted attraction, make it worth mentioning on this site, but many of the employees there claim that it actually IS haunted. There have been claims of strange noises, shadow figures, props being turned on by themselves, and many of the workers feel they are being watched when no one else is around.
